PHOTOGRAPHY TECHNIQUES

Tanysha Brown

Techniques Essay

Being a photographer there are many techniques to be a good photographer. I believe that using the Rule of thirds, Focal points, and getting Background right are good techniques to the start of becoming a good photographer.

The 1st technique will be the Rule of thirds. Rule of thirds breaks down your image into thirds horizontal/vertical making 9 parts. The rule of thirds places point of interest, which some may call the money spots. This places more balance and enables viewer to interact naturally. Breaking the rule of thirds can also result in striking shots.

The 2nd technique some photographers may use is Focal Points. Focal Point is the Position- the prominent position / rule of thirds. The focus will be the depth of field to blur out aspect in front or behind focal point. The size- making focal point large to make prominent. Last step would be color; using contrasting colors /set your point of interest from the surroundings. All these steps give images better focus.

Last but not least, the next technique I would use will be Getting backgrounds right. Checking your background before shutter release, making sure to have a clear background. Maybe image background has too much clutter so you may have to move your object or person and change shooting angle. Also aperture can be used to blur the background.

In conclusion to my essay when you have techniques, you have great photography. Rule of thirds is good to balance your photos. Having focal points give you good position and focus. Also checking backgrounds help decide which angle your person or object should be shot from. So if you want to be a good photographer these maybe some good techniques to begin with.

Symmetry is an image that can be divided & be the same on both sides.
Asymmetry is an image that is divided but has more detail on one side.
My photos demonstrate these two concepts because I have taking them so you are able to identify wether they are asymmetry or symmetry.
My biggest challenge was deciding what I should take a picture of and what angle.
My biggest success was actually getting good pictures to fit my assignment.
